It is the old fashioned butcher shop in a modern age with a deli fashioned from the streets of New York.
Family owned and operated, Mattern's have been serving the Michiana area for over 55 years satisfying wholesale customers in the restaurant industry.
Our humble beginnings in retail started two years ago at the American Countryside Farmer's Market, in Elkhart, Indiana. Since then we have grown and have identified the need to open an additional store to accommodate the growth we are experiencing.
Our new retail operation will be dubbed "one stop shop" where you can come in for lunch of sandwiches, soups or salads and at the same time, pick up your dinner (steaks, chicken, seafood, k-bobs, etc) fresh breads, grilling and glazing sauces, spices, marinades, jams and jellies and don't forget the homemade ice cream for desert.
For the early morning commuters, business men and women coming to Goshen, customers can pip-in and grab Fresh Baked pastries and coffee before heading onto work or going about heir day.
Located in the newly renovated historic Newell's building on the corner of Main and Washington. Mr. David Pottinger and his crew have done another outstanding job bringing this building back to life. We hope the public will be proud of the work done and call Mattern's their hometown butcher shop.
Mattern's preserves the traditions of yesteryear. We designed and built our store on a foundation of strong family values and a love for food. The quality of our meat is outstanding. In addition to premium beef, we carry lamb, veal, port, poultry, seafood and selection of fresh bison. Our meat selection is ample and the best available.
Sausage lovers need to look no further to enjoy homemade specialties. We can custom made numerous varieties of fresh and smoked sausage. We also make old fashioned ring bologna, and our own country smoked hams, smoked pulled pork, smoked baby back ribs and Beef BBQ, all prepared with premium meats the old fashion way, in an actual smoke house!
When you are entertaining Mattern's Butcher Shop & Corner Deli will help to make it a great success. We provide custom cuts, we will "bone and roll" your roasts, and can hand rub or marinate your purchase for you. We stock a selection of premium cheeses and can prepare meat and cheese trays for your event.

Michiana MEDA is an association of Christian business people and professionals committed to applying biblical teachings in the marketplace at home and supporting the world wide work of MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates). Members may particapate in member meetings, insight dinners, investment clubs and networking opportunities.
Michiana MEDA is a chapter of a North American non-profit organization, MEDA, an association of compassionate business women and men who invest in the lives of families living in poverty around the world.
Through MEDA, faith-oriented business owners, execatives and leaders are able to intefrate their life values with business in practical ways to help the poor. They are committed to using their faith and abilities in their businesses, communities, and around the world.
Most of the world's poor are working hard, but barely getting by. Our bottom line is to help men and women sustain their families withour emergency or ongoing support from us. We build programs to increase personal dignity and self-sufficiency.
Through training, loans and mentorship, entrepreneurs both in North America and around the world can earn a livelihood, provide for their families and enrich their communities.
Whether we work with local or national governments, foundations, or businesses, we believe that healthy partnerships provide infrastructure and long-term solutions.
